The Dirt Exchange

Legal

Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 7, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how The Dirt Exchange LLC collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website and app. This is a working draft for pre-beta use and may be updated after legal review.

1. Who we are

The Dirt Exchange LLC (“we,” “us,” “our”) is a construction materials network that helps people post, find, and message about surplus or needed materials such as fill dirt, aggregate, topsoil, gravel, sand, rock, and similar materials. Website: https://thedirtexchange.net.

2. Information we collect

Account information: email address, password (stored by our auth provider), username, and optional profile details such as company, role, work environment, phone number, and preferred home region. We also store whether you have opted in to our weekly listings email.

Listing information: material type, offer/request details, quantity, logistics notes, location/coordinates, address text you enter, expiration dates, records of claims made on listings, and related post data.

Communications: messages you send through the app about listings, and related conversation metadata.

Usage and technical data: approximate device/browser information, IP address, pages visited, and basic logs needed to operate and secure the service. Map features may use third-party map services that process location-related requests.

Cookies and browser storage: we keep your sign-in session, your “stay logged in” choice, your theme, and your recent map view in your browser’s local and session storage. We set a single cookie, and only for administrative access while the site is in maintenance mode. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies and we do not track you across other websites. Our map provider, Mapbox, may set its own browser storage and collect usage data when a map is displayed.

3. How we use information

We use your information to:

  • create and manage your account
  • display listings on the map and in the app
  • enable in-app messaging between users
  • personalize map/home-region views
  • send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset, and similar service emails)
  • send a weekly email summarizing open listings, but only to members who opt in, and only until they opt out
  • publish aggregate, non-identifying totals of completed exchanges (for example total cubic yards moved)
  • maintain security, prevent abuse, and improve the service
  • comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information.

4. How messaging and contact details work

Listing pages are designed so users can contact each other through in-app messaging. We do not require phone or email to appear on posts. If you choose to share contact details in a message or profile field, that is your choice and responsibility.

5. Sharing of information

We may share information with:

  • Service providers that help us run the product (for example hosting, database/auth, email delivery, and mapping). These providers process data on our behalf.
  • Other users, to the extent needed for the product (for example your username, listing details, and messages you send them).
  • Legal/safety recipients, if required by law or to protect rights, safety, or the integrity of the service.

6. Data retention

We keep account, listing, and message data while your account is active and as needed to operate the service. We may retain certain records for security, dispute, or legal reasons. You may request account deletion by contacting us at thedirtexchange5280web@gmail.com.

7. Your choices

You can update profile information in the app, choose whether to include optional fields like phone number, and request password resets. You can turn the weekly listings email on or off from your profile at any time, or use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any one of those emails. You can ask us to delete your account subject to legal/operational limits.

8. Children’s privacy

The Dirt Exchange LLC is intended for adults and business/industry use. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account, and the service is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18, and we will delete it if we learn we have collected it.

9. Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

10. International users

If you access the service from outside the United States, you understand your information may be processed in the United States or other locations where our providers operate.

11. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy. We will post the updated version with a new effective date. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
